The home side won the toss and decided to bat first on this batting-friendly pitch. To open the batting, in walked captain Smriti Mandhana alongside young opener Pratika Rawal.
While the two got off to a mellow start to their inning, Mandhana soon shifted to a higher gear and started taking on the Irish bowlers, scoring boundaries and sixes for fun. While Smriti kept the pace up, Rawal played the anchor role in this inning. The skipper first reached her 50, and soon after reached her 100 in just 70 deliveries.
This quickfire ton was the fastest century by any Indian in women’s ODI cricket. Smriti Mandhana not only broke the record but absolutely shattered it. The previous quickest 50 by an Indian woman in this format was scored just last year by Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a 100 in 87 balls; Mandhana took 17 fewer balls to reach the milestone.

By the time the captain had gotten out, she had scored 135 runs in 80 deliveries. Meanwhile, India was 233/1 in the 27th over. Then came Richa Ghosh, promoted up the order to keep the attacking batting going. She kept the momentum on, scoring a 50 of her own. By this time, Pratika Rawal too had reached her 100, her first in international cricket.
When Ghosh got out, India was 337/2 in the 39th over. India was on their way to cross the 400-run mark, which had only been done five times in women’s ODIs before today. In the last 10 overs, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team lost a few wickets. First was Pratik Rawal, who scored a massive 154 runs in 129 deliveries. This is the third-highest individual score for an Indian woman in the format.
With solid contributions by Tejal Hasabnis and Harleen Deol towards the end, India ended up putting up a mammoth total of 435/5 in their allotted 50 overs. This is not only the fourth-highest score ever in Women’s ODI but is also India’s highest score in the format, for women and men, as the men’s team’s highest score is 418/5.
On what has been a record-breaking night for the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, there is not one more record on the table, that is the largest margin of victory for India in WODIs. The record is currently a 249-run win against Ireland in May 2017.
