It was Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root who came to their team’s rescue and took them past 100. In the 2nd session, both Bairstow and Root lost their wickets in quick succession, with Axar Patel’s ball that bowled Jonny Bairstow out arguably being the delivery of the day.
When young spinner Rehan Ahmed lost his wicket, England were in dire straights at 155/7. But it was the tail that wiggled a little too hard. Well, it was mostly captain Ben Stokes, who scored 70 and stood out there with the tail-enders, ultimately taking the score to 246.
As previously stated, Ravi Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja took 3 wickets each, whereas Axar Patel and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets each. Hometown boy Mohammed Siraj not only took no wickets but only scored four overs, going for 28 runs.
