India Beats Pakistan In Womens T20 World Cup: The Indian Women’s Cricket Team struggled to defeat Pakistan in Match Seven of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup as the Women in Blue registered their first points on the table with a six-wicket win.
India took on arch-rivals Pakistan in what was the second Group A match for both of these teams. India came into this match after a massive 58-run defeat to New Zealand in their opening game of the competition. On the other hand, the Women in Green won their first game against Sri Lanka fairly comfortably.

The India vs Pakistan match, which is one of the biggest spectacles in cricket in whatever capacity the two nations face, was being played in the Dubai International Stadium and saw Pakistan win the toss and decide to bat first in the afternoon match.
This turned out to be a poor decision as the Pakistan batting attack started falling apart at the seams. Opener Gull Feroza was bowled by pacer Renuka Singh for a duck in the opening over.
Pakistan slowly trudged forward, scoring runs at a slow pace and losing wickets consistently. Sidra Ameen was bowled by Deepti Sharma in the fifth over, and Omaima Sohail was out in the seventh. By the time the 10-over mark was hit, Pakistan was 43/4 as opener Muneeba Ali had recently lost her wicket.
While the team needed to pick the pace up, that never happened. Captain Fatima Sana was dismissed for just 13, and it was only in the 20th over that Pakistan crossed the 100-run mark. Star all-rounder Nida Dar played a crucial 34-ball-28-run inning, and Nashra Sandhu scored six runs in two balls in the last over to take the team to a three-digit score.

Medium-pacer Arundhati Roy bowled the best spell of the inning of 3/19 in four overs. Shreyanka Patil took two wickets, while Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma, and Asha Sobhana took a wicket each.
This one looked like an easy win for India. The start of the inning was slow, which was understandable. But the boat rocked a bit when Smriti Mandhana was dismissed in the fifth over. But from here, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues took charge of the inning and slowly climbed towards the small target.
When Shafali was dismissed in the 12th over, India was 61/2 and needed just 45 runs in eight overs. However, a twist in the tale came in the 16th over. With Harmanpreet Kaur’s women just 26 runs away from the target, Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh were dismissed by Fatima Sana on consecutive deliveries.
Having been sufficiently spooked, the batters gave up trying to finish the match easily and reverted back to taking singles and doubles. Deepti Sharma and Captain Kaur took the team quite close to the target. But with just two runs required with more than an over left, the skipper seemed to have pulled something in her neck and was retired hurt.
Sajeevan Sajana then came to strike and scored a four on her first ball as India won their first match in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. Arundhati Roy was named the player of the match for bowling the best spell of the game.
India is now fourth in Group A of the competition behind New Zealand, Australia, and Pakistan. While all these teams are on two points, India has the worst net run rate. They will now face defending Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka in their next match on October 9.
