India looked more attacking in the opening few minutes compared to the previous game in this tournament. With a lot of circle penetrations in the first quarter, a goal finally came in the 11th minute. Gurjant Singh and Mandeep Singh connected as they took the ball in the opponent’s ‘D’; a shot at the target was stopped by a defender’s body, leading to a penalty stroke. Skipper Harmanpreet stepped up and converted from the spot, 1-0.
India, a team known for their prowess from penalty corners, has not been able to convert too many at the 2024 Olympics. But in the 19th minute, they were awarded a PC, which Harmanpreet converted to take the score to 2-0 in favor of the Indians. And the half ended with this scoreline.
The Irish came into the second half with their attacking pants on. They troubled India with several circle penetrations. They even got their first penalty corner in the 41st minute, which then became a second penalty corner. The Indian defense, led by veteran keeper PR Sreejesh, saved both attempts at goal.
From this point. Both teams would make circle penetrations and win a PC but fail to convert for several minutes. In the 50th minute, the Indian skipper received a green card for arguing with the referee and had to sit in the dugout for two minutes.
However, the Indian defense held firm, and team India won the game with the final scoreline of 2-0.
