And the English openers proved that the pitch was batting-friendly, as Phil Salt and Ben Duckett hit the ground running with the way they batted. Taking the attack right to the Indian bowlers, the two men gave their team a flying start.
Batting together till the ninth over, the two notched 75 runs together before Salt was dismissed via run-out and an over before the end of the powerplay. Duckett soon followed, thanks to a superb catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Harshit Rana’s bowling.
On the last ball of the powerplay, Harry Brook departed for a duck to complete an unexpected top-order collapse. Joe Root and captain Jos Buttler then batted together for some time while scoring slowly. In the 19th over, Root fell for England’s fourth wicket at the team score of 111.

However, at this point, Buttler built a partnership with Jacob Bethell, both scoring almost 60 runs together. A couple of deliveries after the skipper scored his 50, he was dismissed by Axar Patel. And just a few overs later, Liam Livingstone continued his poor form, and the England Cricket Team fell to 183/6.
Bethell then took charge of run-scoring with the tail, going on to score a 50 of his own and getting out soon after. In the end, the whole inning was done and dusted at 248 runs in the 48th over, giving India a chasable target to win this game.
For the Men in Blue, Yashasvi Jaiswal came in to open alongside captain Rohit Sharma. The two men made a cautious start. But then, in the fifth over, having already scored a few boundaries in his innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal departed.
Then, in the very next over, skipper Sharma continued his run of bad form when he departed for just two, with the team falling to 19/2.
But then came the rescue team, as Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer batted the team to safety, putting together a 94-run partnership in just 10 overs. By the time Iyer was dismissed by Bethell, he had scored 59 off 36.
And while Gill anchored the inning, the incoming Axar Patel maintained the flow of runs, scoring a 50 for himself as well. India cleared the 200-run mark around the 30th over. And while a few wickets fell towards the end, including Gill’s, the Indian Cricket Team crossed the line in the 39th over, winning the match by four wickets with 68 balls to spare.
India had a few standouts in this game. Ravindra Jadeja bowled an excellent nine-over spell of 3/26, and Harshit Rana took three wickets as well. In batting, while Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel scored 50s, it was Shubman Gill who was named the Player of the Match for 87 off 96.
With this win, India takes the lead in what is an important series, as just a week after the end of the third and final ODI, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will commence.
