IND vs IRE Match Highlights And Report-T20 WC: On a spicy and tricky pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, India’s four-man pace attack led a demolition job of the Ireland batting order in both teams’ first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Each of the four Indian pacers made an impact and produced some sensational balls. After the bowlers bundled Ireland for 96 runs, Rohit Sharma cracked 52 runs before retiring out due to a blow to his arm. Rohit and Pant produced some cracking shots, with the left-hander sealing the chase with a six.

Rohit won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Indian bowlers were right on the money from the start. In the third over of the innings, Arshdeep dismissed Paul Stirling, top-edging his slog, and Andrew Balbirnie castled with a terrific away-going delivery.
Jasprit Bumrah, who came on as first-change after Arshdeep and Siraj bowled the first five overs, started with a maiden. After the powerplay, Hardik struck twice in two overs, bowling Tucker through his gate and getting the outside edge of Campher through to Pant. In between these, Bumrah bounced out Tector.
Siraj and Axar got in the fun too with the wickets of Dockrell and Barry McCarthy, respectively. Pandya completed his three-wicket haul with Mark Adair’s wicket.
Ireland were 50/8. From there, it was Gareth Delany’s 26 runs that took them to over 90. Bumrah yorked Josh Little while Delany got run out as the last wicket, with Ireland falling four runs short of 100.

In the chase, India lost Virat Kohli for only one run but then Rohit and Pant calmed the nerves against a testing new-ball spell on a tricky pitch. Rohit hit Little for a four and six, but he didn’t connect most of his big hits properly. India ended the powerplay at 39/1.
In the 9th over, Sharma was hit by Little’s bumper on his upper arm. The India captain responded by smashing two sixes on the leg side. He brought his fifty up with a boundary in the 10th over, off 36 balls. With the target only 21 runs away, Rohit decided to retire hurt himself in order to not aggravate his injury.
At the other end, Pant bided his time initially and was 18 off 18 at one point. Pant then pulled Little over midwicket for a maximum. He finished the chase off with a jaw-dropping reverse scoop sixer off McCarthy over the wicket-keeper.
Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his figures of 3-1-6-2.
Score summary: Ireland 96/10 in 16 overs (Gareth Delany 26, Hardik Pandya 3/27); India 97/2 in 12.2 overs (Rohit Sharma 52, Benjamin White 1/6). India defeated Ireland by 8 wickets.
