IND vs BAN 2nd Test Day 4 Report: After no play on days 2 and 3 of the Kanpur Test, cricket finally resumed at Green Park on day 4, Monday, September 30.
It was a day that was thoroughly dominated by India. Such was India’s performance today that despite losing more than two days to rain, the hosts have put themselves in a position where they can win the match on day 5, weather permitting.
Indian bowlers first dismantled the rest of the Bangladeshi batting line-up in a little more than a session. The Indian batters then put on a stunning show of aggression to score 285 runs in only 34.4 overs. By the end of the day, the visitors had lost two wickets as well.

The first session was an exciting one with both teams having some moments to cherish while also some self-questioning. Though India grabbed three wickets, their spinners strayed leg side as Mominul Haque produced a spate of sweeps and reached his 13th Test century, which is two more hundreds than any other Bangladeshi batsman in their Test history.
While Mominul was assertively brilliant over the Indian bowlers, others around him were lackluster. The shots on which Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan got out were simply foolish.
First, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep bowled tight lines and lengths before Bumrah finally had Mushfiqur Rahim. Rahim shouldered arms to a delivery that nipped back in and it hit the top of off-stump—another moment of sheer brilliance from Bumrah.
Liton started off spectacularly with three fours to Bumrah but was then tied down for 11 dots by Siraj. To release the pressure, he danced down and looked to club Siraj over mid-off. However, India captain Rohit Sharma took an incredible one-handed catch.
Shakib, who has announced his retirement, came in and tried to take down R Ashwin, but it was a contest that was inevitably going to end in Ashwin’s favor. Shakib skipped down the track and miscued his wild shot, which was was taken superbly by Siraj at mid-off. Mominul, though, didn’t get bogged down and played his strokes, reaching his ton just before lunch.
In 45 minutes after lunch, India cleaned up the remaining four wickets for only 28 runs. Bumrah got creamed for three fours by Mehidy Hasan Miraz but had the last laugh as the batted edged to slip. Bumrah, Siraj, and Jadeja picked up the last three wickets, leaving Mominul stranded at 107 as Bangladesh were bundled out for 233 in 74.2 overs.
With not much time left in the game, it was expected that India would come out all guns blazing, but the way Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started was simply phenomenal. Jaiswal hit three fours in the first over, while Rohit hammered three sixes in the first five balls he faced.
Although Rohit was bowled by Miraz, Jaiswal was unstoppable as he whacked a six and two fours to Mahmud before smashing boundaries to Miraz and Taijul. India’s fifty was brought up in the fourth over only, and then Jaiswal raced to a 31-ball fifty as India put 100 runs on the board in merely 10.1 overs, which is the world record for the fastest team century in Test cricket.
Shubman Gill joined in on the fun as well with four fours and a six. India then lost three quick wickets—Jaiswal for 72, Gill for 39, and Pant for 9, the last two holing out in the deep.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul formed a brilliant partnership then. Both of them played intentful shots and collected boundaries regularly but also didn’t look like playing risky ones. They ran hard while also sending the ball to the fence frequently.
Kohli got out for 47 (35), bowled by Shakib, while Rahul notched up a fifty, scoring 68 (43). Their partnership of 87 (59) drove India past Bangladesh’s total.
Eventually, Indian batters perished in the aim of hitting boundaries. India declared at 285/9, which they posted in only 34.4 overs. During this innings, India broke the record of the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250.
In the last 45 minutes of the day, India further forced the issue for a result as they picked up two wickets, both belonging to R Ashwin. Ashwin had opener Zakir Hasan lbw, beating him on the outside edge, before knocking over nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud.
At stumps on day 4 in Kanpur, Bangladesh are 26/2, trailing by 26 runs.
