IND vs BAN 1st Test Day 2 Report: Continuing from his rhythm and form from the Test series against England and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Jasprit Bumrah rattled Bangladesh on day 2 of the Chennai Test. Bumrah, along with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, showed a masterclass to the Bangladeshi bowlers on hitting the perfect length consistently as the trio took 8 Bangladeshi wickets combined to help India take a huge first innings lead of 227 runs.
India didn’t enforce the follow-on—there are to play nine more test matches, and they wouldn’t want their bowlers to bowl much in the Chennai heat—and ended day 3 with a lead of 308 runs with 7 second-inning wickets in hand.

Bangladesh started the day on a positive note. They didn’t allow Ravindra Jadeja to get to his century and dismissed R Ashwin soon after. Taskin Ahmed bowled much better today than yesterday and took three wickets, while Hasan Mahmud dismissed Bumrah to complete his five-wicket haul. India managed to add only 37 runs to their overnight score and were bowled out for 376.
Then came a terrific bowling show from the Indian pacers. Bumrah was on the money straightaway as he knocked the top of the off-stump of Shadman Islam from round the wicket as the left-hander shouldered his arms, perhaps thinking the ball would seam away as it did in the lead up to this delivery.

A few overs later, Akash Deep bowled two cracking deliveries to rattle the stumps of Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque on consecutive balls to leave the visitors three down with less than 25 runs on the board.
After lunch, Siraj and Bumrah got the outside edges of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, respectively, as Bangladesh slipped to 40/5.
Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das performed the rescue act with their stand of 51 runs. However, Das suffered what could be termed a brainfade as he slog-swept Jadeja and was caught at deep square leg before Shakib was out reverse-sweeping the left-arm spinner.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a few strokes but could only take his side to a total of 149 runs. Bumrah and Siraj bowled the last couple of batters as India took a lead of 217 runs but didn’t enforce the follow-on.
The hosts batted for an hour and a half before stumps and lost three wickets—Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, both edging behind, and Virat Kohli, who was lbw by Miraz—for the score of 81. India’s lead has swollen to 308 runs.
