IND vs AUS Border Gavaskar Trophy History: The Indian cricket team will be touring Australia this year for a bumper five-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Australia vs India 2024-25 Test series comprises five matches; this is the first time since the 1991/92 series that India and Australia will meet in a five-match Test series.
The much-awaited rubber will start on November 22 in Perth, followed by Test matches in Adelaide (Day-Night Test), Brisbane, and Melbourne, and the series will conclude in Sydney with the New Year’s Test.
India currently hold the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they have won the last four IND vs AUS Test series, including twice in Australia. On their upcoming tour, they would be looking to make a hat-trick of Test series victories on Australian soil.

Since 1996, India and Australia have played Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is named after legendary batsmen and former captains Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar. The winner of the Test series clinches the trophy. And if the series ends in a draw, the team holding the trophy retains it.
Over the years, given the competitiveness between the two teams, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s excitement has been put right on par with the Ashes, which is the Test series between Australia and England.

What is the India v Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy history?
The first series between India and Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy was held in 1996. It was a one-off Test match, held at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi. India won the match by 7 wickets through Nayan Mongia’s century and Anil Kumble’s nine-wicket match haul.
Since then, India and Australia have played Test series regularly. So far, there have been 56 Test matches played in the Border Gavaskar Trophy’s history, out of which India won 24 and Australia won 20, while 12 Tests have ended in draws.
Overall, there have been 16 India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. India won 10 Test series, while Australia won 5, and only one series, the 2003-04 series in Australia, ended in a draw.
