IND vs AFG 1st T20I Report: Shivam Dube made a statement ‘comeback like Dube’ in the first T20I of India vs Afghanistan and the result was a sweet 6-wicket win for the home side at Mohali. The CSK batter’s 60* made the difference when Rohit Sharma’s return to the T20I became nothing but a wet cracker.
Batting first Afghanistan gave India a decent target, 159 in 20 overs losing 5 wickets. India needed 15 fewer balls to walk through that sparing six wickets in their bag.
Rohit’s Duck Duck Go
After a long layoff from the T20I, Rohit Sharma came back to the shortest format but didn’t sparkle much as the sacks MI captain went for a duck that put India in a vulnerable situation. India was at 9/1 in 2 overs.
But that didn’t impact India as Dube stepped in. His impactful performance began with a key wicket, dismissing Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran. His dynamic batting display, exhibiting prowess against both spin and pace, showcased his versatility. Supported by Jitesh Sharma, who contributed a quick 31 off 20 balls, India’s chase remained on track.

Mohammad Nabi, defying his age at 39, played a stellar knock of 42, guiding Afghanistan to a competitive total. Despite the early setback of Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Shubman Gill’s aggressive start and Dube’s calculated innings steered India to victory.
Dube, known for his spin-hitting abilities, tactically navigated Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s variations and displayed composure against Afghanistan’s seamers. His well-crafted fifty off 38 balls and a finishing flourish of a six and a four off Naveen-ul-Haq sealed India’s win.
Jitesh Sharma, maintaining his place in the lineup, showcased his explosive batting style, though Mujeeb’s return saw him departing in the 14th over. Dube, along with Rinku Singh, ensured India’s triumph in a match that provided a thrilling start to the T20I series.
