Picking the best XI players for creating the team of the tournament of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is a tricky task that requires plenty of brainstorming. For, the competition saw a spate of stars across the 20 teams perform well and deliver notable contributions.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 came to a conclusion on Sunday with India becoming a record third-time men’s T20 champion.
Suryakumar Yadav’s team also achieved a couple of unprecedented records by becoming the first team to win the title on home soil and successfully defend its crown.
While the final ended up being heavily one-sided, India had to scrap hard for their victories against the West Indies in a virtual quarterfinal and against England in the semifinal.
As expected, India will boast of multiple players in the team of the tournament of this edition of the T20 World Cup. Let us check out the best XI.
IceCricNews ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Team Of The Tournament:
Openers: Sanju Samson (wk), Aiden Markram (C)
Despite playing only five matches, Sanju Samson bagged the Man of the Tournament award. He made a huge impact with his three consecutive match-winning knocks of 97*, 89, and 89 in the last three matches. With 321 runs, Samson was the third-highest scorer of the T20 World Cup 2026.
While Tim Seifert, Sahibzada Farhan, and Finn Allen all scored more runs than Aiden Markram, we have gone with Markram for the lack of captaincy options in our XI.
Markram had a good time with the bat – 286 runs – and was even more impressive as a captain, with South Africa recording seven straight victories before failing in the semi-final.
Middle-order: Ishan Kishan, Shimron Hetmyer, Brian Bennett
Batting as an opener and at No. 3 in this tournament, Ishan Kishan blasted 317 runs at a strike rate of 193, with half-centuries against Namibia, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
West Indies’ Shimron Hetmyer had a breakthrough ICC tournament as the left-hander whacked 248 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 186.
Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett was dismissed only twice in six innings in the T20 World Cup, which resulted in his average swelling to a whopping 146 as he made 292 runs in the competition with a highest score of 97* against India. He can also bowl off-spin.
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Will Jacks, Axar Patel/Corbin Bosch
Hardik Pandya asserted his status as the best white-ball all-rounder in the world. With 217 runs and 9 wickets, Pandya was in the top 20 of both the runs and wickets charts. Pandya struck at 190 in the death overs and had an economy of eight per over in the powerplay.
Will Jacks was in contention for the Player of the Tournament prize until the final. Jacks truly became an all-rounder in these conditions, bagging four Man of the Match awards. He scored 226 runs and pocketed nine scalps and, like Hardik, was part of the top 20 on both leaderboards.
The No. 8 slot in this team is a bone of contention. Axar Patel and Corbin Bosch both had similar tournaments, and both are proper bowling all-rounders who can hit maximums with the bat. Both claimed 11 wickets at similar averages and economy rates while bowling in challenging phases – Axar in the powerplay and Bosch in the death.
Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Adil Rashid, Shadley van Schalkwyk
The GOAT Jasprit Bumrah had another spectacular tournament: 14 wickets, the joint-most, at an average of 12.42 and an economy of 6.21.
Although Varun Chakravarthy took 14 wickets, he was out of sorts since the Super 8. So for the lead spinner, we have gone with England’s Adil Rashid, who finished the T20 World Cup 2026 with 13 wickets at an average of 19.23 and an economy of 8.15, both better than Varun.
A name that will not be remembered by many makes our team of the tournament: Shadley van Schalkwyk. The USA pacer bagged 13 wickets in only four matches at an average of 7.76 and an economy of 6.80, striking every 6.84 deliveries!
