ICC ODI Team of the Year 2023 Fan Reactions: As the ICC recently revealed the Men’s Team of the Year for 2023, the dominance of Indian players on the list has sparked debate on social media among fans.
As India was terrific in the last ICC World Cup, six players from India found their place in the XI. Rohit Sharma, leading the squad, was joined by fellow Indian players Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, and Mohammad Shami.
The rest of the team featured players from the World Cup’s top-performing teams. World Champions Australia secured two spots with Travis Head and Adam Zampa, while New Zealand’s Daryll Mitchell claimed the No. 5 position. South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen rounded out the ODI Team of the Year.
Gill, Kohli, Rohit, and Mitchell were the top four run scorers in ODIs for 2023. Among the bowlers, Kuldeep, Siraj, and Shami emerged as the leading wicket-takers during the year. Kohli’s 765 runs in the ODI World Cup were one of the reasons why the legendary cricketer got his place in the XI.
But the inclusion of 6 Indian players, major exclusions like the World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, and also the exclusion of Pakistan players caused a row on social media. Fans questioned the integrity of the ICC by asking whether it’s an Indian Cricket Council instead of the International Cricket Council.
