In the final 10 overs, with Ibrahim Zadran and veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi on strike, the Afghans scored 113 runs. This included an 11-run partnership in just 55 deliveries between the two.
During this partnership, Zadran first became only the second player in history to score a 150 in the Champions Trophy and then broke the record for the highest individual score in the competition, which was 165 and was made by England’s Ben Duckett a few days ago in CT 2025.
Zadran, who got out on the first ball of the final ball of the inning, was dismissed for 117 runs off 146 deliveries. He scored 12 fours and 6 sixes in the course of his fabulous inning.
This inning is not only the highest score in Champions Trophy history but is also the highest individual score for Afghanistan in ODIs. The record was previously held by Zadran as well, who scored 162 runs against Sri Lanka in 2022.
As for the Afghanistan Cricket Team, they ended up with a decent score of 325/7. This is a must-win match for this team. After losing to South Africa in their opening game, the Afghans need to win this one to stay alive in this competition.
This is also a must-win match for England, who lost their first game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to Australia and need to win here to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
