I want to say one thing to Harry Brook: Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has given a strong riposte to Harry Brook’s excuse of smog for the failures of England’s batsmen in the loss in the first IND vs ENG T20I, which followed a loss in the second T20I as well.
India won the first T20I in Kolkata by 7 wickets, with Varun Chakravarthy starring with a three-wicket haul. Harry Brook was bowled by a googly from Chakravarthy. England managed only 132 runs.
After the loss, Brook had claimed that the England batsmen couldn’t pick the Indian spinners from their hand because of the smog in Kolkata. But a similar script followed in the second T20I in Chennai. England made 165, and Brook was bowled against a googly from Varun. India won by 2 wickets in the end.
I want to say one thing to Harry Brook: R Ashwin
R Ashwin, who is now retired and is active on social media, explained the reasons for Brook’s dismissals to Varun in this series, and it wasn’t due to smog; it was because of his technical flaws.
Ashwin pointed out that there was no smog in Chennai, yet Brook was once again bowled by a googly from Chakravarthy. It was, as the veteran cricketer explained, due to Brook’s alignment while playing the googly.
“There was no smog there in Chennai. Harry Brook had earlier stated that there was smog in Kolkata, so picking Varun Chakravarthy was difficult. I want to say one thing to Harry Brook: ‘Please understand that Varun Chakravarthy doesn’t bowl leg spin that much. It is googly’,” Ashwin said in his YouTube video.
“You moved to the leg stump and couldn’t read the delivery, so you got bowled. Then you covered the stump and took a big stride, but couldn’t read the googly; you got bowled again. No matter how the light is, if you are not reading the googly out of his hand, you are just not reading the delivery out of his hand,” said Ashwin.
The third IND vs ENG T20I will be played on Tuesday in Rajkot.
