Predicting Highest Wicket Taker in T20 World Cup: The ninth edition of the men’s T20 World Cup is set to commence on June 2 in Dallas, and the final is slated for Barbados on June 29. This will be the first time that the USA will host a senior men’s ICC main tournament, in what is a bid from the governing body to promote cricket in the States. A total of 20 teams will partake in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Most of the best T20 bowlers in the world will be on show in the T20 World Cup this year in the West Indies and USA.
Talking about the pitches, the surfaces in the USA are expected to be good for batting, but those in the West Indies would give plenty of assistance to the bowlers, in particular the spinners and pacers who use change of pace effectively. The Super 8 matches, two semi-finals, and the final will be played in the West Indies, so expect the bowlers to dominate the headlines more as the tournament progresses.
Let us see which three bowlers could be the leading wicket-takers in the T20 World Cup.
Predicting the Highest Wicket Taker in T20 World Cup:
Jasprit Bumrah
Unarguably the best fast bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, has been on song across formats since his return last year.
The general template for the distribution of Bumrah’s overs in T20s is one over in the powerplay, one over in the middle overs, and two in the death, although he could bowl a second over in the powerplay if the opposition’s best batter is at the crease.
Nonetheless, Bumrah is a wicket-taker and has all the tools to make dents in any phase of the game. He is going to be perhaps the most crucial player for India for the Asian giants to end their ICC trophy drought.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga thrives on pitches that offer even some turn and grip. He is, in particular, deadly against most opposition, barring the top teams. Nevertheless, pitches in West Indies will make him a potent threat even against the stronger batting units.
Since 2021, among the Full Member nations, Hasaranga has taken the most wickets: 88 in 52 T20Is at an average of 15.05 and an economy of 6.65.
Hasaranga, prominent for his googly, is currently injured and is ruled out of the IPL 2024. But he is expected to make his comeback in the T20 World Cup, where Sri Lanka’s hopes of success will be pinned on his wicket tally.
Josh Hazlewood
Australia’s Josh Hazlewood often goes under the radar for being in the shadow of Cummins and Starc, but it could be argued that he’s the best and most effective of the three pacers in T20 cricket. An IPL winner with CSK and a T20 World Cup winner with Australia, Hazlewood has been outstanding in his rise as a T20 bowler since 2021.
Since 2021, Hazlewood has taken 52 T20I wickets at an average of 18.71, which is the best average among full-member pacers who have taken a minimum of 50 scalps in this period.
With his lanky frame, Hazlewood hits the deck hard and uses the cutters very well in the shortest format. He can also swing the ball and nail his yorkers.
