Harshit Rana Wants To Play For India: Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana has revealed his aspirations to play for the Indian national team in the near future after a successful IPL 2024 season.
Rana was one of KKR’s best players in IPL 2024. The Delhi-based bowler took 19 wickets this season with an average of 20.16. He was also the fourth joint-highest wicket-taker of the season.
After a stellar season, which saw Harshit win the IPL with KKR under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, the 22-year-old now has his eyes on the team India jersey.
Harshit Rana Wants To Play For India
In a recent interview with the Indian Express, Rana opened up about his aim of playing for India, saying –
“I want to get that Indian jersey. I am not thinking about the format. I want to play for the country.”
Harshit Rana was also involved in controversy this season. After multiple incidents of excessive celebrations following a wicket, one of which involved him sending a player off with a flying kiss, Rana was banned from a match this season.

After KKR won the IPL, team co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan suggested the team do the ‘flying-kiss’ celebration with the trophy. Discussing the whole flying kiss saga, Rana had this to say –
“I was sad when I was banned for flying kiss celebration. Shah Rukh Khan sir told me that we will do the kissing celebration after lifting the trophy. He kept his word and we all celebrated in a similar fashion.”
In the past years, a solid season in the IPL by a young player is rewarded with a call-up to the national team in the second half of the season. It would not be a surprise to see Harshit Rana be picked for India for a series against the likes of West Indies or Sri Lanka.
As for next season, there is a decent chance that Kolkata Knight Riders will retain him ahead of the mega auction in 2025. If not, an exciting young Indian pace bowler will go for a large sum in the auction.
