ICC Test Batting Ranking: Harry Brook Becomes No 1 Test Batter In The World
The Three Lions recently took on the Kiwis in the second Test of their three-match series at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The home side won the toss and decided to bowl first, putting England on to bat. Brook saved what would have otherwise been a disappointing innings for his team, scoring 123 off 115 and taking the English to 180.
A mega performance in the second inning by Brook, centurion Joe Root, and Jacob Bethell gave New Zealand a target of 583 runs in the fourth inning. Getting out for 259, the BlackCaps lost the second match of the series by 323 runs.
Harry Brook was named the Player of the Match for scoring a ton in the first inning and a half-century in the second. This also pushed him over fellow Englishman Joe Root in the Test batter rankings to the top spot. In the three innings he has had in the New Zealand series, Brook has scored two centuries and a 50.
That is not it, but Brook has broken another record. He has become the first batter in Test history to score seven 100s in his first 10 away matches. He broke Sir Don Bradman’s record, who scored six tons in his first 10 away Tests. England’s Ken Barrington too scored six, but Harry is the first one to score seven.
With a rating of 898, the 25-year-old Englishman is on top of the Test batter rankings, followed by Root at 897. There is a massive distance between the two England Cricket Team batters and the third-ranked player, as New Zealand’s Kane Williamson is in third with 812 points.
India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal and Australia’s Travis Head round off the top five with 811 and 781 points, respectively.
After 23 Tests, Brook has already scored 2280 runs with an average of 61.62 and has eight centuries under his belt. He has done well in almost every country he has played, especially in New Zealand, where he has an average of 96.85 in four matches.
The third and final New Zealand vs England match will be a dead-rubber and will not even affect the World Test Championship much. It will be played on December 14-18 in Seddon Park in Hamilton.
