Harbhajan Singh Slams RCB For Releasing Spinners: Legendary Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh recently slammed Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the franchise’s management for letting world-class spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal and Wanindu Hasaranga go.
RCB is looking like a very top-heavy team this season. While their batting unit has stars like Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and captain Faf du Plessis; their bowling attack might just be the worst in the league.
A top-level wrist spinner could’ve, to a point, alleviated these issues, someone like Chahal or Hasaranga. It’s a shame then that both of these names are not in the squad anymore.
Harbhajan Singh Slams RCB For Releasing Spinners
Following RCB’s one-sided loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 10 of IPL 2024, where the bowlers looked clueless while defending 183 against KKR, Harbhajan Singh had this to say on Star Sports about RCB letting Yuzvendra Chahal in the past.
“Where are the bowlers? They don’t have good bowlers in IPL 2024. For me, bowling is an area of concern. What did they do with Yuzvendra Chahal? He was their best bowler but was not retained. He is one of the legends of the game,” he said.

Bhajji, who has played for championship-winning sides with Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, also criticized team management for letting go of Wanindu Hasaranga ahead of the 2024 season, saying –
“They also had Wanindu Hasaranga, but he was also released. You can’t win matches by releasing big players. Barring Mohammed Siraj I don’t find any bowler, who can win matches for the team. Even Siraj is struggling for form. They rested Karn Sharma from the match against KKR.”
Yuzi Chahal, who has the most wickets in IPL history and in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, was let go by RCB ahead of the 2022 mega-auction. That year, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals and immediately repaid his new side by winning the Purple Cap.
As for Hasaranga, he was released from his Rs. 10.75 Crore contract ahead of the 2024 season. He was then bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a relatively low price of Rs. 1.5 Crore.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024 have only won one of their first three matches. The win too was a last-over thriller against the Punjab Kings. Currently sixth on the table, RCB will take on the Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on April 2 in the latter’s home ground Ekana Stadium.
