Harbhajan Singh Praises Ashutosh Sharma: Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Harchajanb Singh recently sang praises for Punjab Kings’ latest sensation Ashutosh Sharma, comparing the young batter to South African legend AB de Villiers.
Ashutosh Sharma, along with Shashank Singh, have lit the IPL on fire with their explosive batting and impressive hitting. Despite Punjab Kings losing most of their recent matches, these two have made every PBKS match exciting.
Yesterday was no exception as the Kings took on Mumbai Indians. Chasing a target of 193, Punjab’s top order collapsed as the team was on 19/5. From here, first, Sashank scored a quickfire 41-off-25 to bring his side into the game somewhat. Then, Ashutosh Sharma went berserk and started scoring all over the part.

His 61-off-28 balls nearly brought PBKS to the gates of victory. During the innings, the 25-year-old ever struck an in-form Jasprit Bumrah for sixes, one of which was an unbelievable sweep to an on-point yorker that travelled to the back-rows.
Another impressive shot was hit against Akash Madhwal, as Ashutosh hit a reverse scoop over third man. Shades of AB de Villiers.
Harbhajan Singh Praises Ashutosh Sharma
Speaking of de Villiers, Harbhajan Singh was quite pleased with the batter’s explosive performance. Following the match, Bhajji, in a discussion with Star Sports, compared Ashutosh Sharma’s shots to those of the South African icon, saying –
“Ashutosh Sharma is the second batter AB de Villiers who has played that shot. I haven’t seen anyone doing it over the years after ABD. De Villiers used to do it. Ashutosh made it look so easy. He is a talented batter, who is getting better after every game.”
Despite a herculean effort by Sharma, Punjab Kings went on to lose the match by nine runs. They have now lost their last three matches. Although, all three were very close losses, helped in part by Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma.
As for Punjab Kings, they are currently ninth on the table with four points in seven matches. They will face Gujarat Titans in their next match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali.
