Gunther Wins The King Of The Ring: Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther has won the King of the Ring tournament and will now challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.
The Ring General took on Randy Orton in the final of the prestigious tournament at the King & Queen of the Ring Premier Live Event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, May 25.
In what was a dream match for many, Gunther focused on Orton’s injured back and knee for much of the contest. From stomping on the back of the 14-time World Champion to putting him in a one-legged Boston Crab, the Austrian put on a technical clinic against Randy.

Randy Orton, to his credit, kept up with Gunther for most of the match, even hitting him with a couple of RKOs, with the second one almost winning him the match.
In the final moments of the bout, Randy hit Gunther with an RKO. Unable to kick out of the devastating move, the leader of Imperium chopped Orton’s injured knee, forcing the 44-year-old to give up the pin. Gunther then rolled Randy up to score the pinfall and win the contest.

This was the fourth victory in three weeks in the King of the Ring tournament for the new ‘King’ general. He defeated long-time rival Sheamus via submission in the first round before making Kofi Kingston tap out in the quarterfinals.
In the semi-finals of the tournament, Gunther made ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso pass out in the sleeper hold and won via submission.
Having beaten three former world champions en route to winning the King of the Ring, Gunther will now challenge for a world title himself, as he will take on the World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam later this year.
Damien Priest is currently the World Heavyweight Champion, winning the title at WrestleMania 40 by cashing in on Drew McIntyre. Before Summerslam, however, he will defend his title against McIntyre in his home country of Scotland at the Clash at the Castle PLE three weeks from Saturday. The winner of this match will face Gunther at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
