In a hugely indicative move by Glenn Maxwell, the Australian star has hinted that he could part ways with his IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and be up for grabs in the upcoming auction.
The IPL 2025 mega auction is likely to take place in December or January. In the coming days, the BCCI officials will meet the IPL franchise owners to come to a decision regarding the number of retentions and Right To Match cards each team will be allowed for the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Glenn Maxwell likely to be released by RCB
In one of the big moves that is on the cards, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is likely to be released by RCB ahead of the mega auction.
Apart from Maxwell’s dipping returns on the field in T20 cricket in the past year, the Aussie star has indicated this by unfollowing RCB on Instagram!
Earlier this week, fans noticed that Maxwell had unfollowed RCB on the photo-sharing platform, Instagram.
Glenn Maxwell had a terrible IPL 2024 season with RCB. He scored only 52 runs in 10 games and was dropped midway through the season for England all-rounder Will Jacks. He’s been with the franchise since IPL 2021 and now it seems his stint at RCB is set to come to an end.
Further, RCB are also expected to release the 40-year-old Faf du Plessis. There are reports claiming that RCB are looking to trade in KL Rahul from Lucknow Super Giants and put him at their helm for IPL 2025.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI could allow 5-6 retentions for each franchise. That will allow the teams to retain their core while also not diluting the excitement of the mega auction. There are a couple of franchises who have reportedly asked for as many as eight retentions but the board is unlikely to grant their wish.
The franchise owners will meet the BCCI officials on July 31 at the Cricket Centre, the BCCI headquarters, at the Wankhede Stadium complex in Mumbai.
