Gilchrist Praises Attacking Style Of Rishabh Pant: Former Australian wicketkeeper batter Adam Gilchrist has praised Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s approach to batting, claiming that Pant is even more of an attacking batter than he was.
The 26-year-old is currently playing in the first of two India vs Bangladesh Test matches. While he was dismissed for 39 in the first inning, Rishabh came back roaring when he scored a brilliant ton in the second inning to give his team a massive lead of over 500 runs.
Gilchrist, who is a prominent commentator on Australian and international broadcasts, was once one of the most attacking batsmen in world cricket. Having played 96 Tests for the Baggy Greens, he scored 5570 runs at a fine average of 47.5. More impressively, ‘Gilly’ maintained an incredible strike rate of 81.95 across his Test career, which would be about par for limited-overs cricket back in his day.
With him being one of the cornerstones of attacking batting in Test cricket, his words regarding how aggressive batters of today hold a lot of weight. He recently used those words to shower praise on Rishabh Pant.

Speaking to Cricket.com, the Aussie icon called Rishabh ‘fearless’ and praised his ability to absorb pressure.
“I reckon he attacks a bit more than I did. I played an aggressive brand at that time, but Rishabh, he looks fearless. What I do like is that he occasionally puts a foot on the brake and absorbs a bit of pressure. So he’s a class act,” said Gilchrist.
The former captain of the Punjab Kings in the IPL then went on to say that Pant is one of the most fun players to watch in international cricket, saying,
“He is, what you say, bums on seats, and people pay money well and truly. I would happily pay money to watch him play cricket. So that’s a great quality to have, I think, if people are acknowledging in that manner because he gets the results, he’s a winner and a survivor, as we know. He’s all class in everything he does. He’s good fun; he’s got the humour. He knows how to go about a very serious business in a fun way.”
Rishabh Pant is one of the best red-ball wicketkeeper-batters in world cricket. In the 34 Tests he has played for the Indian Cricket Team, he has scored 2419 runs with an average of 44.79, while maintaining a healthy strike rate of 74.11.
He has been an absolute match-winner for India over the last few years, especially in Test cricket. Who could forget his brilliant rescue in the fourth inning at the Gabba against Australia in 2021 or his fine ton against England in Ahmedabad in 2021 that helped India win the Test match by an inning?
