The Gujarat Giants have taken a big step towards a playoff qualification with a dominant win over the UP Warriorz as we head into the back-end of Women’s Premier League 2026.
Tonight’s game was Match 14 of WPL 2026. It was played in the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara and saw the Warriorz win the toss and decide to bowl first.

The Giants got off to a decent start to their inning, as the opening duo of Beth Mooney and Danni Wyatt-Hodge made 20 runs in the first two overs. But then, at the end of the third, Wyatt-Hodge was bowled by Kranti Gaud for 14 off eight.
Batter Anushka Sharma came in at number three, scored a few boundaries, and got out in the powerplay as well, in the fifth over at the hands of Gaud for 14 off eight.
At this point, the Gujarat innings was still going on at a dine run rate, but this wicket partnership between Mooney and captain Ashleigh Gardner really slowed things down. While the opener was struggling to make a-run-a-ball, the skipper was struggling to make any runs at all.
By the time Gardner was dismissed in the 10th over for a dismal five off 12, the team score was 65/3, a run rate barely above six. Mooney got out soon after, in the 13th over for 38 off 34.
Sophie Devine, who came in at No. 5, played the anchor role in the second half of the GG-W innings. However, she could not form a decent partnership with any of her teammates, seeing the regular fall of wickets.
Bharti Fulmali made five runs on as many deliveries, Kanika Ahuja made six off five, Kashvee Gautam made 11 off six, while Renuka Singh made just one run on one ball before getting run out.
In the end, Devine went unbeaten and scored a half-century in 42 balls. Her slow yet steady innings resulted in the Gujarat Giants ending their allotted 20 overs with a respectable score of 153/8.
In response, the UP Warriorz lost a wicket super early, right in the first over, as Kiran Navgire got out for a golden duck. This was followed by UPW’ sbiggest partnership of this match.
The pair of Phoebe Litchfield and captain Meg Lanning made 37 runs together in the next four overs or so. By the time Lanning was bowled by Kashvee Gautam for 14 off 10, the score was 39/2 in the fifth over as the match hung in balance.
This kicked off a collapse of the Warriorz batting order. Although this collapse was a slow one, it took out the entire team.
In the eighth over, Litchfield was dismissed by Ashleigh Gardner for 32 off 27. In the next over, Harleen Deal got out after making three off 12. Then, in the 11th, star-allrounder Deepti Sharma got out for four off seven.
Over the next seven overs, Chloe Tyron stood at one end, seeing her entire team get out. Wicketkeeper Shweta Sehrawat for three off six, Asha Sobhana for seven off 11, Sophie Ecclestone for one off four, Shikha Pandey for one off three, and Kranti Gaud for one off two.
By the 18th over, the UP Warriorz were all out for 108 runs, losing the match by 45 runs as the Gujarat Giants won this low-scoring contest in comprehensive fashion.
For her brilliant four-over spell of 3/14, Rajeshwari Gayakwad was named the Player of the Match. She took three massive wickets, dismissing Deepti Sharma, Shweta Sehrawat, and Asha Sobhana.
With this win, the Giants have taken a massive step towards the WPl 2026 playoffs. With three wins, three losses, six points, and a negative net run rate in six matches, the Gujarat-based franchise is second on the points table with two league matches to go.
On the other hand, the UP Warriorz, with two wins, four losses, four points, and the worst net run rate in the league in six matches, are at the bottom of the points table.
