Gautam Gambhir Returns To India: In a huge development regarding the Indian cricket team, head coach Gautam Gambhir has set off on a place from Australia to return to India following the first BGT 2024-25 Test match.
India secured a historic win in the first Test against Australia in Perth, thumping the hosts by 295 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the Man of the Match for taking 8 wickets in the match while conceding only 72 runs and for his terrific leadership during the game, especially after India were bowled out for only 150 runs in their first outing.
For India, other notable performances in Perth came from Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj.
Gautam Gambhir Returns To India, To Miss Practice Match Ahead of Second Test
The second Test of the five-match Test series will commence on December 6 in Adelaide. This will be a day-night Test match that will be played with pink ball. In the previous day-night Test India played in Adelaide, they were bowled out for only 36 runs as Josh Hazlewood dismantled them.
Before the second Test in Adelaide, Team India will play a two-day practice match against Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra from November 30. This practice game will also be played with pink ball in day-night settings to give the Indian players practice ahead of the Adelaide Test.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir will miss this practice game in Canberra as he has returned home to India due to personal reasons.
In Gambhir’s absence, assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel will oversee the Indian team.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Gambhir will miss the practice match but he will return to Australia and join the squad in Adelaide before the second Test match in Adelaide.
While Gambhir has left for home, India welcomed captain Rohit Sharma to the squad. Rohit joined the team on the fourth day of the Perth Test.
He will take over the captaincy duties back from Bumrah and is expected to slot back in the opening role, replacing KL Rahul, who could either be pushed to No. 3, replacing Devdutt Padikkal, or in the middle-order role that he had been given last year in South Africa Also, Shubman Gill is expected to be fit for the Adelaide Test. If he makes it, Dhruv Jurel would be dropped.
