Gautam Gambhir On Experts Attacking Hardik Pandya: Former India cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has slammed former South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru player AB de Villiers for criticizing Hardik Pandya’s captaincy for the Mumbai Indians this season.
Hardik has had a challenging season as a player and captain of MI. As the leader, he has failed to take his team to the playoffs and might finish last on the table. As a player, he has scored 200 runs at an average of 18.18 and has taken 11 wickets with an economy of 10.59.
His performance since returning to the Indians before this season has garnered Pandya a lot of derision from all portions of the cricketing universe. He has been criticised by fans and experts alike. Even the fans of the franchise did not want him as the captain of the franchise even before the tournament started.

One of those criticising Hardik is AB de Villiers, who questioned the 30-year-old’s body language as of late, claiming that the star all-rounder has not been his own self.

Gambhir, who has found a lot of success as the mentor of table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders this season, has now come to the defence of Hardik Pandya while questioning de Villiers’ credentials for speaking on the topic.
As Gautam Gambhir On Experts Attacking Hardik Pandya, In a recent interview with SportsKeeda, Gambhir claimed that the likes of AB and Kevin Pietersen have no right to diss Pandya. He also asked what these overseas legends have done as skippers.
“What was his own performance when he was the captain? I don’t think, be it Kevin Pietersen or AB de Villiers, they had any performance in their career with leadership. Nothing if you pick and see their records. I don’t think AB de Villiers has achieved anything in the IPL apart from his own scores. I don’t think he has achieved anything from a team’s point of view,”
said Gautam.
While AB de Villiers has never captained a match in the IPL, Kevin Pietersen has, and it can be argued that the Englishman was the worst captain in the history of the league. Across various stints as team captain for the likes of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), out of the 17 matches he has captained, KP has won only three with a winning percentage of 17.64.
As Gautam Gambhir On Experts Attacking Hardik Pandya, On the other hand, Gambhir and Hardik have both won an IPL trophy as captain and have win percentages well over 50%.
While Mumbai Indians are out of the tournament with eight points in 13 matches, the Knight Riders are on top of the league table and are confirmed a top-two finish. They will face the no. 2 team in the league the Rajasthan Royals in their next match on Sunday, May 19 in Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium.
