Ganguly Picks the Indian Openers for the T20 WC: The T20 World Cup resumes just a week after the IPL gets its curtains down. So naturally, the performances in the IPL would be a scale for the national side’s selection for the WC. When a lot of usual names disappointed in this season, a lot of unusual names thrived through the gap. Picking a squad would be a mammoth task for the selectors, as the talents are abundant in the pool.

Saurav Ganguly recently had a couple of suggestions regarding team picking. The former Indian captain thinks India should open their big twos, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He also thinks that ‘the final roster should include a balance of experienced veterans and talented youth’
“I believe both Virat and Rohit should open. In my opinion, the final roster should include a balance of experienced veterans and talented youth. While the veteran players have delivered tremendous performances over the years, the young players have also shown great promise and potential. The final selections should be based on a holistic evaluation of each player’s skills, character, and record of strong performances, regardless of age or experience,” Ganguly said.

‘India Has Players to Adopt a More Aggressive Approach’: Saurav Ganguly
Ganguly also thinks that India has to approach the batting more aggressively, as even when mistakes happen, the team has great depth to recover.
“I mentioned to Rahul Dravid in Australia to play fearlessly and aggressively. With a deep batting lineup, India can afford to take risks and just go for their shots. Even if they lose some wickets early on, the team has the depth to recover.
“India has players to adopt a more aggressive approach. Rohit showed his ability during the 50-over World Cup, providing explosive starts at the top of the order that relieved pressure on the middle order,” Sourav Ganguly added.
Ganguly also reminded us of the qualities that Virat Kohli possesses. According to the Bengal Tiger, with a great deal of talent in the squad, starting the match aggressively and scoring a good amount of runs at the start would reduce pressure out of mid-order.
“Virat is also capable of hitting a 40-ball hundred (strike rate of more than 200). With their talent, India simply needs to go out and play with an attacking mindset right from the start, putting pressure on the opposition during the powerplay overs. If they can consistently get off to fast starts, it will give them breathing room later in the innings.” remarked Ganguly.
