Gambhir Needs 3 More IPL Trophies for KKR: Gambhir is the most decorated cricketer in the history of the Kolkata Knight Riders. The former Indian opener had KKR their two of the three IPL triumphs as a captain in 2012 and 2014, and the third as a mentor now in 2024. But this is not enough for KKR’s own GG. He wants more trophies in Kolkata’s locker, at least 3 of them, as he could make the franchise finish the most superior one in the history of the IPL, thrashing the other Titans like MI and CSK’s record.
What makes you stand out among your peers is your unending hunger and the perseverance to back it up with a lot of hard work. It’s very very tough to have these qualities in a person, but hey, GG is proven to be one of those kinds. And this made KKR boss King Khan land Gambhir as a mentor in IPL 2024, and oh boy, didn’t that work like magic?
Gambhir Needs 3 More IPL Trophies for KKR
Winning two more trophies will take KKR to level with CSK and MI, and one more extra on top of that will be a shining feather in their name. Gambhir wants that. But it is not that easy. Winning an IPL needs a long two months of consistency, planning, and some work to put in. And the current mentor of KKR is more aware of this than anyone. He wants to make KKR unparalleled.
“While KKR have won the IPL three times, we still trail MI and CSK by two trophies. Though I’m pleased with victory, I’m hungry to make KKR the most successful franchise in IPL history. To achieve that, we’ll need to win three more titles, which will require tremendous effort and dedication. If we can become the IPL’s most decorated team, it would be an unparalleled accomplishment. But the journey has only just begun,” Gambhir said in an interview with Sportskeeda.
The 42-year-old considered KKR’s 2012 title triumph as their most special, as it laid the foundation for their subsequent victories in 2014 and 2024.
Once you get the thrill of winning, it works as a catalyst in your future games. You will be thirsty to have that thrill again, and moreover, to quench that, you will be well equipped strategically, as you have already invaded the road that couldn’t be taken down by most of the others. For this reason, Gambhir thinks the 2012 triumph was the most significant one.
“Winning the IPL for the first time in 2012 was significant, not just because I was the captain, but because it was our inaugural title. When you win the IPL final for the first time, you learn the type of cricket required to succeed at that level. Until you achieve that milestone, you constantly question whether you can win it. However, once you do win it, you feel confident that you can replicate that success and win it again. That’s why 2012 was so meaningful, as it was our first IPL title,” he continued.
KKR could win IPL trophies again, but will it always be under GG’s watch? This question will have to wait a bit. Already, rumors are being cooked in Indian cricket that BCCI is considering the 2011 World Cup winner to school their national team. If everything goes well and the Men in Blues bring wonder under GG, the Men in Purple will not have his valuable mentorship.
