Fans troll RCB on Twitter: Once again the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsmen failed to get to terms with the nature of the pitch at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and understand that their cross-batted shots wouldn’t work on the tacky and sticky surface at their home ground, as they slumped to 42/7 in a rain-curtailed game against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
RCB have been phenomenal away from home in IPL 2025, having recorded victories against KKR at Eden Gardens, CSK at Chepauk, MI at Wankhede, and RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
However, the Rajat Patidar-led unit has been guilty of not getting their shot selections right at their home venue, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and that has led to two losses in two games against GT and DC.
A third consecutive loss in three games at home is impending as they have managed only 95 runs in a 14-over match against Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab. And this too is thanks to Tim David’s blistering knock of 50* off 26 balls.
At one point, RCB were in danger of breaking their own record of the lowest IPL total of 49 runs, which they had recorded against KKR in 2017 at the Eden Gardens. RCB were tottering at 42/7 as one by one their batsmen got out due to ill judgment of the bounce from the pitch.
Opener Phil Salt and Virat Kohli both got out mis-hitting their pull shots to Arshdeep Singh, while Krunal Pandya was surprised by the extra bounce from Marco Jansen. Liam Livingstone, too, mis-hit his ugly hoick across the line off Xavier Bartlett.
Yuzvendra Chahal, the former RCB spinner who holds the record for the most wickets for RCB, took out two key men: Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar, both caught in the deep. Manoj Bhandage finally got an opportunity, but Jansen trapped him lbw for just one run.
David’s assault in the last four overs not only helped RCB cross the dreaded score of 49 but also took them to a total where they could think of doing the unthinkable, though the chances of that happening are slim.
Meanwhile, as their batters fell like a pack of cards, RCB got trolled mercilessly on Twitter.
