Fans React On CSK Losing to KKR: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a new, unprecedented low, as for the first time in their IPL history, CSK lost three consecutive home games in a season when KKR stunned them by 8 wickets on Friday evening at the Chepauk.
There was a reinvigorated energy among the CSK fans as MS Dhoni was leading the side again, with Ruturaj Gaikwad getting ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury.
The fans at the Chepauk roared out their lungs when Dhoni was at the toss. However, their cheers fizzled out soon as KKR bowlers absolutely dominated CSK’s top-order in the powerplay.
In their first five overs, CSK managed only 18/2, losing Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway. Finally, CSK got a spin-friendly pitch at home. But they got it against the wrong opposition as KKR had three experienced spinners in Moeen Ali, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine, who all put a tight leash on the CSK batsmen.
Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar formed a partnership of 43 (33) for the third wicket. Once their laborious stand was broken, CSK crumbled quickly.
R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Hooda (who was the Impact Sub, replacing Rahul Tripathi), MS Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad all got out for single digits. Sunil Narine returned with outstanding figures of 3/13, while Chakravarthy registered 2/22; Moeen Ali too recorded impressive figures of 4-1-20-1.
Although CSK avoided getting bowled out and played all their 20 overs, they managed only 103 runs, a total that was made a breeze for KKR by Narine’s 18-ball 44-run blitz. KKR gunned down the target in 10.1 overs, thus giving a huge boost to their NRR and denting CSK’s NRR significantly.
The points table tells a story for CSK: they are in the ninth spot, having lost five out of six matches. KKR, meanwhile, jumped to the third spot, and now have 8 points in 6 matches.
CSK vs KKR: Fans React On CSK Losing to KKR
MS Dhoni underscored CSK’s poor results in their last five games, saying,
“It has been quite a few nights that has not gone our way. The challenge has been there, we have to accept the challenge.”
For the loss against KKR, the CSK skipper lamented the batsmen’s poor show, adding that the batters couldn’t build a solid partnership. Dhoni said,
“Today I felt we did not have enough runs on the board. It has been the case over there, when we bowled in the 2nd innings it stopped a bit, today it did in the first innings. When you lose too many wickets, there is pressure and with quality spinners it is difficult. We never got any partnerships and bit more partnerships, application and we would be fine.”
