Fans Hail Rohit Sharma: Only 82 runs in six innings. Then, knocks of 76* and 70, that is 146 runs in only two outings. Rohit Sharma is well and truly back in form.
The former Mumbai Indians captain had had a terrible start to his IPL 2025 campaign: he was dismissed for two single-digit scores, three scores in the 10s, and one score in the 20s.
He finally came good against MI’s archrivals, Chennai Super Kings, smashing 76* off 45 balls to help MI gun down the target of 177 runs in only 15.4 overs.
A similar script followed when MI defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Wednesday to register their fifth victory of the season, which, helped by their healthy NRR, propelled them to the third spot in the points table, ahead of RCB, PBKS, and LSG, who also have 10 points each, and now the five-time champions sit behind only Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals.
In the chase of an under-par target of 144 against SRH, Rohit Sharma cracked 70 runs off 46 balls, walloping eight fours and three sixes with his lazy elegance. Rohit was cheered loudly throughout the game by the Hyderabad crowd, who would remember him from when he played for Deccan Chargers as a youngster.
Now a bona fide legend of the game, Rohit gave the Hyderabad crowd plenty of delight with his handsome strokeplay. He forged partnerships of 64 (46) with Will Jacks and 53 (32) with Suryakumar Yadav as MI cantered towards their fourth consecutive win.
Suryakumar said of his partnership with Rohit, “He made my job really easier, I just had to bat with good tempo, and him scoring runs is a really great sign for the team.”
Meanwhile, former India opener Kris Srikkanth on Twitter heaped high praises for Rohit Sharma. Srikkanth tweeted, “What a knock and what a time to come into form! If this guy is in the wicket for more than 6 overs, then God help the opposition! There is a reason why he’s a legend and he just showed all of us why? Good luck SRH next year!”

While MI jumped to the third spot in the points table, SRH, who now have only two wins in eight games, languish at the ninth spot and are pushed into a position where they effectively have to win the rest of their six games to remain alive in the playoffs race.
