Fans Flood Streets To Celebrate Afghanistan Win: It is one of the biggest days in Afghanistan cricket history as the national team has made it to the semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The fans in Afghanistan have now taken to the streets in celebration.
The Afghans took on Bangladesh in the final Super 8 game with a place in the semi-final on the line. With only a win required to achieve this historic feat, the Afghanistan team faltered to 115 in 20 overs on a tricky St. Vincent Pitch.
Despite putting up a small total, the quality Afghanistan bowling unit absolutely dominated the Bangladesh batting. In a rain-affected match, Bangladesh fell short of their target by eight runs, getting all out at 105 (DLS).
It has just been 14 years since Afghanistan played their first T20 World Cup in 2010. Their first ODI World Cup came less than a decade ago in 2015. While it is a very simplified description of events, the team might have just been a catch away from the semis, the catch of Glenn Maxwell in the game where he would go on to score a double-century and single-handedly win Australia the game.
