Ex-Arsenal Striker On Erling Haaland Hat Trick: Former Arsenal striker Paul Merson believes that Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has already ‘won’ the Premier League Golden Boot for the ongoing 2024-25 season after a brilliant hat trick against newly promoted Ipswich Town.
Man City took on Ipswich in their second Premier League game. The league season started last week, and City thumped Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge as Haaland scored his side’s first goal of the season.
Now facing Ipswich in their first home game of the season at the Etihad Stadium, it was the away side that stunned the defending champions with the first goal of the game as last season’s EFL Champion Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics scored in the seventh minute.
But then the wrath of the Sky Blues fell on Ipswich. Haaland, who has won the PL Golden Boot in both the seasons he has played in the league so far, scored a penalty that was won by Savinho to bring the game level in the 12th minute.
Savinho, who was just playing his third game for City, then assisted his first Premier League goal, which was scored by Kevin de Bruyne just two minutes after the first one, 2-1.
Just two minutes after the second goal, the Norwegian striker scored his second of the game with an assist from De Bruyne. At this point, it was clear that Ipswich Town stood no chance in this David vs Goliath battle.
With a comfortable win in sight, Manchester City and Haaland scored another goal in the 88th minute, with the latter completing his first hat trick of the season in just his third game.
Not only that, but this was also the 24-year-old’s 10th hat trick for Man City in just two seasons in the Premier League outfit and his seventh in the league itself. This puts him on par for PL hat tricks with Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and only five away from Sergio Aguero, who has the most hat tricks in league history with 12.

Talking to Sportsbible, former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested that Erling Haaland has already won the Golden Boot for the 2024/25 Premier League season, saying,
“That’s his tenth hat trick for Man City … just ridiculous. He’s just won the Golden Boot today!”
As stated earlier, Haaland has won the PL Golden Boot award in both the seasons he has played in the league. In his debut season for Manchester City in 2022-23, he broke the league record by scoring 36 goals. In the very next season, he scored 27 to win the award again. Having scored four times in just two games, he has taken his first steps towards making it a three-peat of Golden Boot wins.
