Strengths
Match winners, this side is filled to the brim with match-winners; at least it is supposed to be. Several players on this side can win a match on their own. The likes of Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Jofra Archer, and Mark Wood have shown in the past that they have the ability to flip a match on its head single-handedly.
This England side also has multiple players who have won World Cups before and know how to win ICC tournaments. Buttler even captained the side to the 2022 T20 WC win.
And yes, while this is a team in transition, several of the younger players on this side are not only full of potential but are also proven match-winners on their day.
Finally, there are the veterans. This might be the final chance for a few players in this team to win the Champions Trophy for one final time. The likes of Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid, and Mark Wood might be in the last few years of their international careers.

Weaknesses
This is a team that is holed with weaknesses, the most visible one of which is their form. The England Cricket Team might be in the worst form they have been in the past five years. Since a disappointing performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, they have lost an ODI series to the non-Champions Trophy team West Indies, lost a five-match series to Australia, lost another ODI series to the West Indies, and were most recently whitewashed 3-0 by India.
Another weakness of this side is that there are a lot of new faces in this team playing their first ODI ICC tournament. The likes of Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, and Jamie Overton are important parts of this squad who are playing in their first 50-over tournament.
When it comes to injuries, in-form all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
Opportunities
The England Cricket Team needs to turn it up. A tournament like the Champions Trophy is a perfect time for a team to get out of the rut, something the Three Lions have found themselves in. An opportunity for the new players in the team to become legends with a massive showing in this competition and lead their country to a famous victory. But most importantly, it is an opportunity for the national side to rise to the top of world cricket, something they did at the start of this decade.
Threats
The threat of being in the “group of death” Group B looms large on this side. While it is this side’s form that is a big concern to their fans, even if all guns fire for this team, it will be difficult for the English to make it out of their group. Defending ODI World Champions Australia are in their group and can never be taken lightly. A South African team filled with current and future greats and an Afghanistan side that can defeat most teams on their day make this a difficult group to move out of for England.
England expected playing XI:
Phil Salt (wk), Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (C), Liam Livingstone, Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood
