KKR Unhappy With Pitch But Eden Curator says, ‘IPL Is Not Played On Home Advantage’, Nitish Rana, the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), expressed his dissatisfaction with the pitches at their home venue, the Eden Gardens. He went to the extent of saying that every team in the Indian Premier League enjoys home advantage except KKR.
KKR Unhappy With Pitch
According to The Indian Express, Sujan Mukherjee, the pitch curator of Eden Gardens, stated that he is not obligated to produce wickets as per the directions of the home team.
“IPL is not played on home advantage, and the captain may say anything he wants,” Mukherjee said. “Does IPL have a clause where it is written that pitches have to be produced according to the wishes of the IPL franchise?”
In the past, the Kolkata Knight Riders team has heavily relied on slow bowlers receiving enough assistance from the Eden Gardens pitch. In order to KKR Unhappy With Pitch, Their championship teams of 2012 and 2014 had a significant spin component, with Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan, and Piyush Chawla being the chief architects of their victories as they bowled out teams for scores around 140-160, which their batsmen would then chase down. Therefore, KKR must have been hoping for a similar outcome this time as well.
Recently, there has been a change in the track at Eden Gardens. It is now recognized as a flat pitch that yields high scores in the IPL and domestic cricket. As per KKR Unhappy With Pitch, Additionally, the pitch has a greenish tinge that benefits fast bowlers.
Recently, the pitch at the iconic venue of Ranji Trophy has been favorable to fast bowlers. Last season, a green-top was provided for the Bengal-Saurashtra Ranji Trophy summit clash. Bengal’s main strength has been pace bowling, with Akash Deep, Ishan Porel, and Mukesh Kumar taking the most wickets last season. “At Eden, the surface assists fast bowlers,” Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary had told The Indian Express before the final.
The pitch curator, Mukherjee, believes that altering the nature of the surface for a two-month tournament like IPL is not practical. In the line of KKR Unhappy With Pitch, He stated that there are several issues that he cannot discuss, and changing the pitch for KKR is not a simple task.
“Look at other IPL teams, like RCB and DC; they do not talk or complain about home advantage. They play on what is provided to them,”
Mukherjee added. CAB officials declined to comment.
However, the KKR management is unhappy with this approach. According to a couple of officials from the team who spoke to The Indian Express, they would have preferred to play on a slower surface. As per KKR Unhappy With Pitch, This is because their spinners have been the most successful wicket-takers this season. Varun Chakravarthy has taken 19 wickets, while Suyash Sharma (10) and Narine have also contributed with valuable wickets. At Chepauk, they demonstrated their capabilities when given a favorable pitch, restricting CSK to 144 and winning the match.
The team is disappointed because they do not have the same advantage at home, and it is unlikely to change in the near future.
