Dushmantha Chameera Ruled Out Of Series Vs India: The Sri Lanka Cricket Team has been hit with bad news just days before the series against India starts, as star-pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the entire tour as he is still recovering from bronchitis.
Chameera, who has been a regular part of the Lankan limited-overs side, played the first half of the recent Lankan Premier League for the Kandy Falcons, taking five wickets. He was also a part of the Sri Lanka squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup but did not feature in any games.
The 32-year-old made his debut in 2015 and was a key part of the team for a few years, but regular injuries resulted in his stature in the national team falling in the past few years.

The right-arm pacer was named in the 16-man squad for the T20I series against India. This came after he was ruled out of the second half of the LPL due to bronchitis and respiratory infection.
While it was assumed that he would be fully fit by the time of the India tour, that seems to not be the case, as Chameera is still recovering from the illness.
26-year-old medium-pacer Asitha Fernando, who has played only three T20Is and hasn’t played one since 2022, has been named as the replacement and will join up with the squad today.
“Dushmantha Chameera is still recovering from a recent bout of bronchitis and a respiratory infection and will therefore miss the upcoming T20I series,” stated Sri Lanka’s chief selector Upul Tharanga, who also confirmed that Fernando will come in as the replacement.
“The reports received yesterday confirm that Dushmantha Chameera will be unavailable for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against India,” a statement from the Sri Lankan media said.
Chameera has played 23 ODIs, 55 T20Is, and 12 Test matches for Sri Lanka. He was also impressive when he played for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL in 2022, taking nine wickets in 12 games. This season, he only played a single game for league winner Kolkata Knight Riders.
As for the India vs Sri Lanka tour, it will commence with a three T20I series, which will be followed by three ODIs. The first T20I will be played on July 27 at 7:00 PM at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
