DK Reveals the T20 Approach of Rohit Sharma: Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has opened up about the moment which led to Rohit Sharma changing his entire approach towards limited overs cricket.
Rohit Sharma has led India to a third consecutive World Cup semi-final in the 2024 T20 World Cup. India faced England in the semi-final in the first World Cup he ever captained in 2022. Back then, India lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup by a whopping 10 wickets after failing to put up a big total.
In the second semi-final, India played under Rohit Sharma, they defeated South Africa and made it to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, only to lose after a dominant performance throughout the tournament.
In this tournament, Rohit Sharma has come out with a clear approach. Despite what the pith has been like, the India captain has looked to attack tight from the first over.

This approach finally paid off in India’s last Super 8 game against Australia, where Rohit’s brilliant 92-off-41 took the Men in Blue past the 200-run mark and led the team to a 24-run victory.
India now faces defending champions England for the second time in a row in a T20 World Cup final. With the ghosts of a 10-wicket loss still looming over India, they will come into this game this time around as the favourites.
DK Reveals the T20 Approach of Rohit Sharma
Just hours before India’s clash against England, Dinesh Karthik, who was a part of the India squad for the 2022 World Cup, recalls India’s dismal loss against the Three Lions and how Rohit Sharma adopted a more aggressive style of play due to how that game turned out.
“That was the turning point I feel in Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. That game against England, he felt we scored below par and that’s when he decided this is not the way to play. We need to play a lot more aggressively. From then on, there’s been a very conscious effort to bat differently,” Dinesh Karthik said in a video posted by ICC on Instagram.
India has had a dominant path to the semi-finals. In Group A of the tournament, India defeated Ireland to open their campaign, followed by a close and crucial win over arch-rivals Pakistan. A win over the USA and a washout against Canada was enough for India to top their group.
In the Super 8, India defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia with relative ease to make their way into the final four.
India will take on England in semi-final 2 of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the winner of which will play South Africa in the final.
