Dinesh Karthik Announces Retirement: Dinesh Karthik, who made his India debut in September 2004, announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Saturday, June 1, 2024, which was also his 39th birthday.
During this period, the Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper featured in 180 international matches for India across the three formats and 256 IPL games for several franchises, the last of which was Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), for whom Karthik turned up in good form in the IPL 2024.
He is one of the seven players who have played in all editions of the IPL so far, but this is the end of his professional career.
Karthik last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. His last ODI game was in the 2019 World Cup, and his last Test was in 2018.
He had already confirmed his retirement from the IPL prior to the start of the IPL 2024 season, but in a desire to play in the T20 World Cup 2024, he didn’t make a decision on international cricket. He even had a good IPL 2024 season, scoring 326 runs at a strike rate of 187. However, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson having better returns in terms of the volume of runs, the younger duo was selected.
