Dhruv Jurel Replies To Sunil Gavaskar: Young India cricketer Dhruv Jurel received the highest praise from legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar, who compared the 23-year-old with MS Dhoni!
Jurel made his debut in the third Test against England in Rajkot. He scored 46 runs there and followed it up with a very impressive knock of 90 runs in the fourth Test in Ranchi. Jurel’s knock and his partnership with Kuldeep Yadav were the biggest reasons India crossed 300 runs.

Other than his batting, it’s his wicket-keeping that’s impressed Gavaskar. The 74-year-old even opined that Jurel possesses the game awareness of MS Dhoni.
Gavaskar said, “Of course he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricket.”

Dhruv Jurel was made aware of Gavaskar’s comments after the play of day 3 in Ranchi. He was overwhelmed by Gavaskar comparing him with Dhoni. The youngster said he felt happy upon learning about Gavaskar’s praise.
Dhruv Jurel replied, “Obviously it’s a good feeling to hear a legend like Sunil Gavaskar talk about me. The mood was great, there were no specific instructions… just to go out and play. Watch the ball and play. Just that the long I play the better it is.”
Jurel’s sublime innings of 90 meant India ended with a deficit of only 46 runs, which was much less than what it once looked like when the side was tottering at 177/7. Jurel’s was the last wicket to fall, missing a turning delivery from Tom Hartley while playing a defensive shot.
The 23-year-old gave a measured response, saying that he doesn’t regret missing out on what would have been his maiden Test hundred.
“I don’t regret a bit on missing the hundred. It’s my debut Test series, I’m just desperate to lift this trophy in my hands. It’s always a childhood dream to play for India in Tests,” he concluded.
