It is Day 2 of India’s 3rd Test of the five-match series against England and it saw the hosts lose two quick wickets in the first few overs after the start of play. Being played in the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, Gujarat, Jurel walked into bat at no.8 when night-watchman Kuldeep Yadav was dismissed at the total score of 331.
Hometown boy and centurion Ravindra Jadeja departed immediately after too, which prompted Jurel’s Rajasthan Royals teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to walk into the middle as well.

With both batters on zero at the same time, debutant Jurel took the responsibility of pushing the team past the 400-run mark. He looked impressive in the early going, with his first boundary in Test cricket being off of a Mark Wood bouncer paced at 146 km/h, which he deposited as a six with an uppercut/ramp shot.
While Ashwin supported him from the other end, the 23-year-old Jurel took on some ordinary bowling by English spinners Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed.
When he was on 32, Jurel was dropped twice. He first smacked a ball by Hartley towards mid-wicket, where Ollie Pope dropped a regulation catch. He then tried to hit a Mark Wood delivery which was outside leg towards the fine leg region, where captain Ben Stokes’ drop gave Jurel another life in this innings.
This did not stop Dhruv, who still looked to punish poor deliveries, something he looked to do with ease. After Ashwin was dismissed for 37, Jurel tried adding a few more runs.
At 46, the wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed when he was caught behind off a Rehan Ahmed delivery, thus missing out on a half-century on debut.
