Dhoni Hints R Ashwin Exclusion from CSK Matches: Chennai Super Kings stand by skipper MS Dhoni hinted that their legendary spinner R Ashwin might just warm the benches in the upcoming matches of the franchise.
Dhoni was talking in the post-match presentation after the final-over thriller against Lucknow Super Giants.
In the LSG vs CSK match, CSK won the toss and elected to bowl first. They managed to tie down LSG to 166 runs in 20 overs. In reply, CSK took the match to the final, and the classic Dhoni came to life. The legendary captain smashed a boundary to give the yellow army a well-deserved second win of the season.
CSK came to the match with 2 key changes, with R Ashwin and Devon Conway sitting on the bench. As both players failed to cause an impact since the onset of the IPL 2025, MS decided to go with Shaik Rasheed and Jamie Overton.
Dhoni Hints R Ashwin Exclusion from CSK Matches
MS hinted that Ashwin might not get many chances going as the captain is looking to maximise the bowling impact, especially during the powerplay
“We made a few changes because we wanted to make sure our first six overs are slightly better, because we need more bowlers in the first six. We were actually putting too much pressure on Ash – he has bowled two overs on wickets that were not doing a lot, and the batsmen were just expressing themselves.”
With 2 wins in 7 matches, Dhoni and Co. are having one of their worst seasons, sitting at the bottom of the table. Their next match is against their rivals, the Mumbai Indians, at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20.
It’s the second time these giant teams have faced each other in the IPL 2025. In their last encounter, CSK had the final laugh.
