De Villiers Annoyed With Pundits Slamming Kohli: Virat Kohli is second on the run-chart in the IPL 2024, and he has been the orange holder for the most part until CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad surpassed him yesterday. The legendary batter has been one of the most consistent batters, not only in this IPL but across his illustrious career. Yet he has been subjected to unnecessary media scrutiny, and the RCB dressing room has had enough of that.
Earlier, Virat Kohli had come out and given a sharp reply to the bizarre comments of the so-called pundits after his swashbuckling knock in RCB’s last win against Gujarat Giants. Now his former colleague, AB Devilliers, came forward, and it was like the legend couldn’t hold the frustration anymore.

De Villiers said that he is annoyed with the inexperienced pundits who bring out stats to criticize the legendary batter without having any real expertise in the game.
“Virat Kohli has faced persistent criticism about his strike rate in recent years. I’m annoyed by the constant scrutiny. He is one of the greatest cricket players ever, with incredible success in the IPL and a key role on RCB. Yet data-driven pundits continue to criticize Kohli, despite lacking cricket expertise or experience. How many games have they played in, and how many IPL centuries have they scored?” he asked.
De Villiers said that RCB should strategize ‘around Virat’s successful approach’ as the star has ‘successfully batted with a proven formula’. The South African also thinks that Kohli is best when he bats at No. 3.
“Virat has successfully batted with a proven formula that has brought victories for the team. The rest of the squad, including the coach and captain, needs to strategize around Virat’s successful approach. Personally, I still believe Virat is best suited for number three in the batting order. Though he loves opening and has an incredible record doing so, batting him at three would optimize this team’s lineup with Will Jacks and Faf opening. Putting Virat at three would give the openers the best opportunity to get off to a fast start,” he continued.
De Villiers wondered where the criticisms are coming from even after Kohli bested his record-breaking 2016 campaign so far in this IPL.
“Virat has the perfect opportunity to cement his role as the anchor that he has been for so many years. Moreover, his strike rate this season is even better than his record-breaking 2016 campaign. I’m not sure where the criticism stems from, as he is batting sublimely at the moment and holding the team together. This allows players like Jacks and DK to play freely,” he stated.
