DC Defeated RR By 20 Runs In Match 56 Of IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royal by 20 runs to keep their playoff hopes alive in IPL 2024.
DC took on RR in Match 56 of the league in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. It was the away team that won the toss and chose to bowl first, and the Capitals immediately made them regret the decision.

Jake Fraser-McGurk opened the inning with Abhishek Porel, and the Aussie went after every ball right from the start. He reached his half-century in just 19 balls. While he did get out right after, DC did score 78 runs in the powerplay while losing two wickets (Shai Hope was dismissed for one).
From this point, Porel took charge of attacking, scoring a blistering 65 in 36. First Axar Patel, then Rishabh Pant, supported him. At 150/5 in the 14th over, Tristan Stubbs took over attacking duty. So while they kept losing wickets till the end, DC did put up a strong total of 221.
The Rajasthan Royals came in to chase the big total and immediately lost Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket on the second ball. From here, captain Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler brought the attack to the bowlers, scoring 67 in the powerplay before Buttler was dismissed.
Riyan Parag then came onto the field and built a partnership with the skipper. But right before he could accelerate, he was unceremoniously dismissed in the 11th over.
With the weight of the world on Samson, he started dominating DC bowlers and started converting overs into big ones.
Now we arrive at the 16th over of the second inning, where this game stepped its foot in controversial territory. After being silent for a few balls, Sanju looked to send it into the stands at long-on on the fourth delivery of the over, but Shai Hope caught a catch while his feet were very close to the boundary.
The on-field umpires went upstairs. In the replay, it looked like Hope’s feet might have touched the boundary skirt, but no conclusion could be arrived at, so Sanju was dismissed for 86 in 46 balls.

The Royals lost the plot at this point. Shubham Dubey, in for an injured Dhruv Jurel, hit a couple of boundaries before being caught out. Donovan Ferreira could only make one run. Ravichandran Ashwin too departed quickly, and DC found Rovman Powell’s Achilles heel, the wide-length balls.
A much more controversial but less-talked-about umpiring decision came in the sixth ball of the 19th over. With 29 required, Powell failed to connect a wide-yorker by Rasikh Salam and took a review for wide.
In the replay, the ball could not be seen by the camera while at the popping crease as it was right behind the bat. But it could not have been a legal delivery from its trajectory in the earlier frames. But when asked to show a review from the other angle, it was of the previous delivery, which was legal. That did influence the third umpire’s decision, who called it inconclusive, and hence wide was not given.
Powell was dismissed on the second ball of the last over, and DC won the match by 20 wickets.
Following that loss, the Rajasthan Royals made it home in second place on the league table with 16 points in 11 matches. They will play the Chennai Super Kings in their next game on May 12 afternoon in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
As for DC, they keep their playoff hopes well and truly alive. With this win, they are now fifth on the table with 12 points in as many matches. They will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next game on May 12 evening in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
