DC Bowler Fined For Breaching Code Of Conduct: Delhi Capitals pacer Arundhati Reddy has been fined 10% of her match fees for breaching the Women’s Premier League (WPL Code of Conduct against the UP Warriorz.
2023 finalists Delhi Capitals took on the UP Warriorz in Match 4 of the 2024 WPL. The match, which was being played in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, ended in an easy 9-wicket victory for the capitals.
DC Bowler Fined For Breaching Code Of Conduct: What Happened?
Bowling first, Delhi restricted UP Warriorz to 119 while taking nine wickets. One of these wickets was taken by Reddy. Upon taking the wicket of all-rounder Poonam Khemnar, the 26-year-old Arundhati had some choice words for the departing batter.
For this incident, the DC pacer was charged with a Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 of the WPL’s Code of Conduct. This article relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match.”
For being fined with a Level 1 offense, Arundhati Reddy was fined 10% of her match fees.
As for the rest of the match, South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp blew away the Warriorz top order, finishing her four-over spell with the figures of 3/5. While spinner Radha Yadav demolished the middle order by taking four wickets.
The Capitals, chasing a target of 120, had a flying start, with captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma both scoring 50s. Lanning lost her wicket when the scores were level, and Jemimah Rodrigues won the match with a boundary on her first ball.
Delhi Capitals won the match by nine wickets and with 33 balls to spare. They are now second on the table with two points in two matches. They lost the opening match of the tournament to defending champions and No. 1 placed Mumbai Indians. However, following this massive win, the Delhi-based franchise has a far better net run rate of 1.222, compared to the Indians’ 0.488.
