David Warner Gets Bowled In a Funny Way: Delhi Capitals’ dynamic Australian opener, David Warner, managed to score only 8 runs in 9 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants in their encounter on Friday night in Lucknow. Warner could have gone on to score more, as the pitch became better for batting in the second innings, but for an unfortunate dismissal.
With a slight pressure building up on the left-hander, David Warner attempted a lap shot, which he intended to hit over fine leg, against LSG pacer Yash Thakur. He’s been playing this lap shot to great effect since last year’s World Cup. This time, though, he misjudged the line of the ball.
Warner moved further back into the crease and across the off-stump to access the legside region behind the square for his lap shot. He didn’t connect his stroke. The ball rapped on his pads, lobbed up, bounced once on the pitch, and hit the leg stump!
The southpaw saw the ball moving toward the stump and tried to push it away with his bat, but he was late and the bail had fallen off already. Warner stood in disbelief as Yash Thakur and his LSG teammates celebrated wildly. It was an unlucky dismissal for the veteran Delhi Capitals opener.

While one Delhi Capitals Aussie failed, another Aussie, Jake Fraser-McGurk, starred on his IPL debut with the bat. Replacing David Warner in the middle, Fraser-McGurk, who had been brought in as a replacement by Ricky Ponting, clobbered 5 towering sixes in his knock of 55 runs in 35 balls.
His fireworks made it comfortable for Rishabh Pant, who scored 41 runs in 24 balls, to help his side chase down the target of 168.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav had spun a mesmerizing web around the Lucknow batters with his figures of 3/20. But Ayush Badoni’s thunderous finish, 55* runs in 35 balls, helped LSG reach 167. This was Lucknow’s first loss in the IPL while defending more than 160 runs, and thus their 13-match streak ends here.
With this win, their second of the season, Delhi Capitals move up from the last spot to the 9th position, pushing RCB down at the bottom position. KL Rahul’s LSG is fourth in the points table with 6 points; four other teams also have six points each.
