In cricket, India vs Pakistan is as hyped or more than a Brazil vs Argentina or a Barcelona vs Real Madrid matchup in football. The decades-long rivalries between these two neighboring nations attract more eyeballs than any other matchup. This paved the way for the ICC to pre-fix the tournament fixtures to make these giants meet at least once. This is also due to the lack of bilateral series between the two countries, with the last one being played in 2013.
David Lloyd slams ICC for Fixing IND vs PAK Match
Former England cricketer David Lloyd finds it wrong and kills the ‘romance’ of anticipation for the big match-ups.
“Fixtures should be independent. We talk about fixing in cricket. The matches between India and Pakistan are kept to make sure they compete against each other once. It is wrong. You can’t fix the schedule. Let the game do it. There is a romance to it. Let the fans look forward to games instead of telling them way in advance about the most-awaited contest.”
Lloyd also slammed the ICC for making fixtures that favor India. He pointed at the fact that India haven’t played a single day-night match in the ongoing T20 World Cup, and it is not fair for the other teams.
“It is not fair for the teams. We’re just manipulating the tournament to benefit a few. The fans in India will watch the matches anytime, as cricket is a religion over there. Come up with the best planning for the World Cups for the sake of supporters.”
