As the veil of uncertainty regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 schedule continues to be left down, the new ICC chairman, Jay Shah, will be hosting his first official meeting in the new role on December 5. It is, however, not expected that the Champions Trophy matter will be decided yet.
Jay Shah, the former BCCI secretary, took the ICC office on December 1, replacing Greg Barclay. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Shah’s first meeting as an ICC chairman is on Thursday, but he didn’t reveal the agenda for it.
“The ICC is pleased to mark the start of the tenure of its new Chair, Jay Shah, as a new chapter of global cricket begins today,” the ICC said in a statement.
On November 29, the ICC conducted a meeting to discuss the Champions Trophy 2025 issue. However, the meeting reportedly ended in less than 20 minutes, and the board members decided to reconvene soon, but it’s not yet confirmed when they will regather for this pressing topic.
PCB likely to agree to CT 2025 Partnership Formula but with one condition from the BCCI
Since that last meeting, it is believed that the PCB has acquiesced to a hybrid model, which some in the PCB are calling a “Partnership Formula or Fusion Formula”—that is, the Pakistan cricket teams (men and women) will not travel to India for the ICC events in the coming years since India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
The PCB will reportedly insist on a hybrid model from the BCCI for the ICC events that India will be hosting next—India will host the women’s ODI World Cup 2025 and are the co-host of the men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with Sri Lanka—and play their matches outside India. This seems the only way, for now, that the PCB will agree to a hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. India are also the host for the men’s Asia Cup 2025.
Currently, the UAE and Sri Lanka are the front-runners to host India’s matches in the Champions Trophy 2025.
