CSK vs GT Match Highlights And Report-IPL
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first, and was soon made to regret his decision as Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad got going immediately. While Gaikwad had a scratchy start and was given a reprieve by Sai Kishore with a dropped catch at first slip, Rachin looked like a million dollars, pulling, driving, and launching the GT pacers for sixes and fours.
Rachin slammed six fours and three sixes before being stumped off Rashid Khan in the sixth over. But by then, CSK had scored 62 runs in 5.2 overs, with 46 runs coming off Rachin’s bat off only 20 balls.
Gaikwad then took over the mantle while Rahane was loose in his run-a-ball 12 and was dismissed by Sai Kishore. CSK promoted Shivam Dube over Daryl Mitchell to take on the GT spinners, and that is what he did by pumping Kishore for two sixes in two balls.
Fast bowler Spencer Johnson bounced out Gaikwad (46 off 36) and looked to do the same to Dube, but the southpaw clobbered him on the leg side for a six and a four. Dube gave the same treatment to Mohit Sharma and raised his half-century in 22 balls, before being sent back by Rashid.
CSK made another promotion: young Sameer Rizvi over Jadeja and Dhoni. The 20-year-old from Uttar Pradesh needed no sighters and smoked Rashid for two sixes in four balls. CSK finished with 206/6, an above-par score at Chepauk, even on this good surface.

The pitch started to play tricks in the second innings, with some balls staying low as Shubman Gill found out after being trapped lbw by a back-of-length leg-cutter from Deepak Chahar; the ball sneaked under Gill’s pull, and the GT skipper was gone for only 8 runs. Saha hit four boundaries before Chahar got him, caught at deep square leg.
Gujarat simply couldn’t get going in their chase after losing Gill and Saha in the powerplay. Sai Sudharsan, the Impact Sub, was slow in his knock of 37 (31). That put pressure on other batters, who all faltered in attempting big shots.
David Miller and Azmatullah Omarzai were caught in deep, both off Tushar Deshpande’s bowling, while Vijay Shankar was superbly caught by wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, diving to his right after a thick outside edge flew off Daryl Mitchell’s bowling.
Apart from Jadeja, the other five CSK bowlers were among the wickets, with Chahar, Deshpande, and Pathirana picking two scalps each.
Score summary: Chennai Super Kings 206/6 in 20 overs (Shivam Dube 51, Rashid Khan 2/49); Gujarat Titans 143/8 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan 37, Tushar Deshpande 2/21). CSK defeated GT by 63 runs.
