CSK top 3 run-scorers in IPL 2024: MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will kick-start their title defense in IPL 2024 in the opening game of the tournament on March 22 at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. CSK are hosting Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli’s RCB in the first match of the season.
Last year, Dhoni lifted CSK to the franchise’s fifth IPL title, equaling the tally of Mumbai Indians. In what is very likely going to be the last season of MS Dhoni, the players would want to give him a send-off with a sixth IPL trophy.
The batters will once again have the onus to put CSK on top of the game. CSK will need their batters to keep adapting at home, where the pitches favor the spinners, and away, when the pitches are belters.
In this article, we will try to predict the top three run-scorers for CSK in IPL 2024. Note: Devon Conway is not considered for this list as he has been ruled out for the first half of the season due to a thumb injury.
Predicting CSK top 3 run-scorers in IPL 2024:
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad was the Orange Cap winner in CSK’s title-winning campaign in 2021, when he amassed 635 runs. He then had an ordinary season in 2022, scoring 368 runs, but bounced back strongly with a 590-run tournament last year.
Gaikwad would be aiming to have another bumper season and make a case for selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The stylish right-handed CSK opener has 14 fifties and one hundred in the IPL.
Rachin Ravindra
CSK bought Rachin Ravindra for INR 1.8 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, and everyone termed it a steal, considering Rachin’s sensational form in the World Cup, his all-round skillet, and his young age, which means huge potential.
In the World Cup, Ravindra scored 578 runs with three centuries and two fifties, and was the leading run-scorer for New Zealand in what was his maiden ICC white-ball tournament.
Recently, in the only T20I he played against Australia, the left-hander smoked 68 runs in 35 balls. With Rachin being a left-hander and also offering a left-arm finger spin option, he is likely to take the place of Conway as an opener for the first half of the season.
Daryl Mitchell
It is more or less certain that Daryl Mitchell will take the number 4 spot of Ambati Rayudu, who retired after IPL 2023.
In the auction, CSK went big on Mitchell and splurged INR 14 crore on the Kiwi all-rounder, which is still less money than they spent on Ben Stokes in the previous auction. Stokes has pulled out of this year’s tournament to manage his injury and workload, thus freeing up the budget for CSK to go big on Mitchell.
Mitchell had a sensational World Cup tournament where he aggregated 552 runs at an average of 69 and hammered two centuries against India. He is an absolute marauder of pace bowlers and will hold the fort in the middle order. Mitchell has the ability to bat in different gears and shift them according to the situation.
