CSK Fans On Twitter Left Upset After Loss: It’s early days in the competition, but three teams have fallen behind in the race to the playoffs in IPL 2025. Two of them are the five-time champions: Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, and the third team is Sunrisers Hyderabad, who set the benchmark last season for power-hitting. These three teams have won only one game out of five, and lost four.
CSK have lost four matches in a row after starting their season with a win over Mumbai Indians at home. They succumbed to two home defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals and two away from home against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.
Their latest loss came in Mullanpur, where they lost by 18 runs against Shreyas Iyer’s side. The difference in the tempo of both teams’ innings was clearly visible today.
Punjab Kings were struggling at one point at 83/5. Despite that, young Priyansh Arya kept going after the CSK bowlers to rack up his maiden IPL century. He finished with 103 runs off 42 balls, a knock that included 7 fours and 9 sixes.
PBKS got the finishing kick from Shashank Singh, who muscled 52* off 35, and Marco Jansen, who cracked 34* off 19, to take the total to 219.
CSK got off to a good start in the chase as Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway put up a 61-run opening stand in 6.3 overs. However, then CSK lost Rachin and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in quick succession.
Conway and Shivam Dube hit some lusty blows but the required run rate kept on rising. While Dube got out for 42 off 27, Conway was retired out for 69 off 49, his strike rate of 140 being well below what was required by CSK.
MS Dhoni walked in and smashed three fours and a six in his knock of 27 off 12 to keep the game alive till the last over. But when he was dismissed on the first ball of the last over, Punjab knew they had sealed the match.
CSK, along with MI and SRH, are now facing the threat of seeing their campaign get off the rails before the business end of the tournament arrives.
Their fans expressed frustration and displeasure at their fourth consecutive loss of the season.
