Cristiano Ronaldo Might Return To Premier League: Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha speculates that international football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo might be on his way back to the Premier League for a third stint in English football.
Ronaldo is one of the most popular athletes of all time and is certainly among the greatest in football. With the most goals in the history of the sport, he has naturally played for some of the biggest clubs in the world.
One of these clubs was Manchester United. CR7 played for United in two stints. First, towards the start of his career, from 2003-09, while his second stint was his last for any European team in 2021-22. During his first spell with the English giants, the Portuguese star turned from a talented youngster to among the best in the world.
After dominating Real Madrid for about a decade and then dominating Italy with Juventus, he returned to Old Trafford for a solid season. However, in the middle of the 2022-23 season, CR7 had a falling out with then-manager Erik Ten Hag. This resulted in the star striker’s contract being ended mid-season in December 2022.
At the age of 37 and having lost some of the immense physicality he had in his prime, Ronaldo was the first major star to join the Saudi Pro League as he signed with Al Nassr.
In the over two seasons he has spent with the Saudi club, he has looked like a player reborn in a league that operates at a lower level than the big European ones. However, that is being made up for by the fact that he has one of the largest professional sports contracts in history, and certainly the highest-paying in football.
Now, the 39-year-old might be in the twilight of his career at the top level, but he is showing no signs of retiring any time soon. Having scored 916 career goals, he looks keen on getting to the mythical number of 1000, something no footballer has even approached before.
With his contract with Al Nassr ending at the end of the 2024-25 season, it would be interesting to see what his next career move will be. We now might have gotten an insight into the situation.
Cristiano Ronaldo Might Return To Premier League
Louis Saha, who played with Cristiano at United from 2004 to 2008, reckons that a club in the Premier League might take a chance on the ageing star and make use of the elite scorer for a season or two.
In a recent discussion with Casino Utan Spelpaus, Saha claimed that the former Real Madrid star is still looking good on the field despite his age, saying,
“I don’t know if Ronaldo will come back to the Premier League, because there’s nothing that you can predict with this guy, so it’s hard to know for sure. Who would have said he would have scored that amount of goals by now? This guy is chasing 1000. I don’t know what to say.”
He then went on to say that there might be a club in the England top division that would take a chance on Ronaldo, maybe for a season or two.
“Ronaldo has eyes on the stuff that normal people don’t have. I would still think that whatever he’s got in his mind, he’s capable of doing it because he’s obsessed. Perhaps a chairman wants to take a chance on him. There are still a lot of things that Ronaldo can do—he’s ageing like a fine wine,” Saha reckoned.
There was recent speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could head to Wales and sign with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s club Wrexham. There is also a chance that with fellow Portuguese Ruben Amorim in charge at his former club, he could return to Manchester United.
One thing is for sure: whatever Ronaldo decides to do next in terms of his career, the world will be watching.
